Improving the TanDEM - X Digital Elevation Model for flood modelling using flood

چکیده
12 The topography of many floodplains in the developed world has now been surveyed with 13 high resolution sensors such as airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), giving 14 accurate Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) that facilitate accurate flood inundation 15 modelling. This is not always the case for remote rivers in developing countries. However, 16 the accuracy of DEMs produced for modelling studies on such rivers should be enhanced in 17 the near future by the high resolution TanDEM-X WorldDEM. 18 In a parallel development, increasing use is now being made of flood extents derived from 19 high resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images for calibrating, validating and 20 assimilating observations into flood inundation models in order to improve these. This paper 21 discusses an additional use of SAR flood extents, namely to improve the accuracy of the 22 TanDEM-X DEM in the floodplain covered by the flood extents, thereby permanently 23 improving this DEM for future flood modelling and other studies. 24

متن کاملEffect of digital elevation model’s resolution in producing flood hazard maps
Flooding is one of the most devastating natural disasters occurring annually in the Philippines. A call for a solution for this malady is very challenging as well as crucial to be addressed. Mapping flood hazard is an effective tool in determining the extent and depth of floods associated with hazard level in specified areas that need to be prioritized during flood occurrences. Precedent to the...

Increasing frequency and severity of flooding demands identification of flood hazard zones in Kalilangan, Bukidnon in response to the echoing need of better disaster preparedness via enhancing the understanding and awareness of the public on flood characteristics by integrating the use of two-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling and remote sensing. Flood simulation was carried out in a two-dimensi...

Today, the preparation of flood zoning maps is one of the basic and important issues in the study of development projects in the world; it is considered before any investment by the related organizations. In this paper, flood zoning was performed using the two-dimensional model HEC-RAS and GIS in order to assess the risk of the construction of a railway station near the bank of the Iranshahr Ri...
متن کاملDigital Surface Model (DSM) Construction and Flood Hazard Simulation for Development Plans in Naga City, Philippines
A 2D-hydraulic flood propagation models require accurate elevation data. One of the main problems is frequent changes of land use in major cities, where frequent updating of the digital terrain model (DTM) for flood modelling might be needed. On the other hand the assessment should be based on realistic flood hazard indicator that would help to reflect the real impact of urban development on th...
